Marketing and Promotion 11
Welcome to the Vast World of Business

Course Description

Marketing and Promotion is an academic survey course with a heavy focus on applied skills.  This means that you will be covering a large amount of material over the semester, working closely with others (as being able to work with others is key to all marketing careers), and completing a number of real world projects and assignments.  Even if you are not destined for a career in marketing this course will teach you about consumer awareness to help you in managing your money and lifestyle.

Course Themes

In this class, we will explore the basics of business and how business decisions are made.  We will then explore marketing through the 4 Ps (price, place, product, and promotion).  In looking at the 4 P's we will be conducting market research, applying our research to decision making and in design, as well as ideas of cost and price.  We will also be looking at traditional and modern promotional strategies.

Course Expectations

  1. Show courtesy and respect at all times
    • The number one rule is to be respectful during class.
    • A major component of this course is technology, the more you respect the equipment, the better equipment the school will get.
    • Of course, all Frank Hurt rules apply so there will be NO food or hats, etc permitted.
  2. Arrive on time and be prepared to work, just like in a job, if you’re late, there will be consequences.
  3. Participate fully and positively.
    • Marketing requires that you be able to work both independently and with others.
  4. Always put in your best effort!
    • The main reason that people fail this course is because of lack of effort.
    • If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make up all missed work.  Assignments will be available on-line so NO excuses!
